Frequently Asked Questions
LiveWisdom
LiveWisdom is a learning platform where history’s greatest minds teach structured LiveWisdom Courses through live face-to-face conversation.
Courses are the heart of LiveWisdom: structured learning experiences built around a figure's core works, aligned with defined objectives, where you demonstrate your understanding as you progress. Open conversations are a free-form companion — talk with any figure about whatever you like, with no set path. Every membership includes both.
Both. The experience adapts to your level, so beginners can start with foundational questions and clear explanations while advanced learners can explore deeper ideas and more complex lines of inquiry.
Yes. New accounts can start one free Prologue. No membership or payment details are required. The Prologue depends on live availability, so it may occasionally be unavailable during busy periods. To continue the conversation afterwards, choose a LiveWisdom membership.
Courses
You will be guided through structured lessons by the course instructor. The instructor presents the topic, responds to your questions, and tests your understanding through dialogue.
Every LiveWisdom membership — Apprentice, Scholar, and Polymath — includes full access to our courses.
Each session is built around a defined learning objective, curated source context, and a conversational progression. The goal is demonstrated understanding, not passive learning.
No prior knowledge is required. Courses begin with foundational concepts before moving into more advanced ideas, and the instructor can adapt the discussion to your level.
Each lesson is self-paced, but we recommend planning for 20 to 40 minutes to allow time for discussion and deeper exploration.
After completing all lessons, you will unlock a Course Review session. In that review, you revisit the key themes, concepts, and takeaways from the full course with the figure.
Scholar and Polymath members receive summaries after completed conversations of at least 10 minutes.
Use a modern browser with camera and microphone permissions enabled. Chrome and Safari are the best-supported choices on desktop and mobile; Edge and Firefox usually work. A stable internet connection is necessary and headphones are recommended. Mobile is supported, though desktop or landscape tablet gives the most reliable live video experience.
Completed lessons are tracked automatically after a meaningful session. If you leave before completing a lesson, you can return to the course and continue from your last completed point.
Figures and authenticity
To respect intellectual property rights and avoid copyright issues, our archive primarily focuses on historical figures whose works are in the public domain. For details on how we select thinkers and respect IP, please read our AI Use Policy.
Yes. We are building humanity's archive of history's greatest minds. New figures are added regularly across every discipline. If there is a thinker, scientist, leader, or artist you believe belongs on LiveWisdom, you can Suggest a Mind and submit your request to our research team.
LiveWisdom uses account- and figure-scoped memory to reference context from your previous sessions. This allows for more personalized and coherent conversations over time.
Much like the historical figures they are based on, LiveWisdom figures can make mistakes, miss context, or present an opinion too strongly. Please verify important claims against primary sources. To help us improve a figure, email figure feedback with the figure name, session topic, and what seemed wrong.
Pricing and Moments
A Moment is the unit used for live conversations on LiveWisdom. One Moment equals one second of conversation time.
Yes. New accounts can start one free Prologue. No membership or payment details are required. The Prologue depends on live availability, so it may occasionally be unavailable during busy periods. To continue the conversation afterwards, choose a LiveWisdom membership.
Moment billing starts after you successfully join the live room. After two minutes of inactivity, the session will end and you can start again whenever you are ready.
Subscription Moments expire according to tier: Apprentice grants expire at the end of the period they were issued for, while Scholar and Polymath grants remain active for 90 days. Moments purchased through one-time Packs do not expire.
Absolutely. You can change or cancel your plan at any time directly from your billing portal. Cancelled subscriptions remain fully active until the end of your current billing cycle.
Your conversation cannot continue once your usable Moment balance is depleted. You can add a one-time Pack or enable Auto Top-Up before starting again. You can also add Moments during a conversation by using the "Add Moments" button in the conversation interface.
After you join, every Moment with a historical figure is used while the conversation session remains active, so you should end the session when you are done. If you do not engage in the conversation, it will end automatically after about 2 minutes of inactivity.
Every membership includes full access to our courses. Course lessons and open conversations both draw on your Moments, which come from an active membership or a one-time Moments Pack. New accounts can also start with a free live conversation with one figure before choosing a plan, subject to availability.
Moment Packs are one-time purchases that add Moments to your account. Moments from packs never expire. They are ideal for topping up when you need a little extra time.
Auto Top-Up automatically adds more Moments when your balance drops below 120. It requires a valid payment method and may pause if a payment fails or needs additional authentication.
Every plan — Apprentice, Scholar, and Polymath — includes full access to our courses. Session summaries for completed substantive sessions are included with Scholar and Polymath.
